Sign the petition for Federal Funds to be allocated for Townsville's water security

The main water pipeline under Riverway Drive delivers 70% of Townsville’s water from the Ross Dam through 7km of pipeline direct to the Douglas Treatment Plant.

As most in Townsville would remember, in December last year this pipeline experienced failings that resulted in Townsville losing water supply for several days. Reports have found that due to the age of the existing infrastructure (under Riverway Drive) this issue will only worsen with time and is at risk of a major failure.

I am asking for your support to sign my petition as I call on the Federal Member for Herbert, Phillip Thompson, and the Federal Coalition Government to allocate $35 Million, from the $195 million that was originally promised for the delivery of Haughton Pipeline Stage 2, for critical water infrastructure upgrades in Thuringowa.

I want to deliver Riverway Drive Duplication (Stage 2) and the road works could place Townsville's main water pipeline at extensive risk, possibly delaying the work that is needed to complete Stage 2.

The Queensland State Government and Townsville City Council are committed to replacing the pipeline. We need the Federal Government to assist with this critical infrastructure. The estimated replacement cost is $45 Million.

Mr. Thompson and the Coalition have previously said that the $195 Million would be used for infrastructure projects around Townsville. This clearly meets the criteria.
